Tanzania’s former President Jakaya Kikwete has hailed efforts by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports to develop the sector by supporting musicians and artists, which has increased national income .
He revealed it on Saturday night at the launch of Ommy Dimpoz’s new album titled ‘Dedication’ at Johari Rotana Hall in Dar es Salaam.
The former president also called on the government to make tireless efforts to ensure that all rights of musicians are legally protected so that they can be more successful.
The ‘Dedication’ album consists of 15 songs including ‘Marry You’ featuring Nandy (Faustine Mfinanga), ‘My Queen’, ‘Ngolowane’, ‘Happy Birthday’, ‘Vacation’ and many more.
It was a colorful day, as the launch was supported by performances from various musicians and brightened by the presence of senior government officials, diplomats and musicians.
Minister of Culture, Arts and Sports Mohamed Mchengerwa was among the distinguished guests who attended the album launch.
During the launch event, Dimpoz performed with Nandy a song called “Marry you” and he later performed with Marioo (Omary Mwanga) the song called “Hasara ya Roho”.
On stage, Ommy Dimpoz thanked God for restoring his health after undergoing surgery and he also thanked the former president for being with him the day and time he underwent surgery in Germany.
During the occasion, the former president said that the efforts made by the president of the sixth phase, Samia Suluhu Hassan, in the music industry, continue to grow the sector and achieve more success than ‘previously.
“Every day when I watch television, I see new musicians and artists, a situation that indicates the employment opportunities for young people and the strong growth of this industry,” he noted.
For his part, Minister Mchengerwa congratulated Ommy Dimpoz on an excellent launch of the album “Dedication” and this will allow the sector to continue to develop more quickly.
He also promised to continue working with artists and musicians to enable artists to achieve financial gains and boost the country’s economy.
Other songs on the album are ‘Moyo’, ‘Anaconda’, ‘Mon Bebe’, ‘Wale Wale’, ‘Zekete’, ‘My Woman’, I Gatch you’, ‘Mpela Mpela’, ‘Magdalena’.
