Silk Sonic turns up the heat for the evening. The duo – consisting of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak – took to the stage at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday (May 15) to perform “Love’s Train”, the final single from their debut album, An evening with Silk Sonic.
Accompanied by a full backing band and joined by two backing vocals, Mars and .Paak took to the stage in burgundy three-piece suits to sing the smoldering track – originally performed by 70s R&B/Soul group Con Funk Shun in 1982 – and engaged in sensual choreography to match the content of the lyrics. “If you’re that special lover/ And love keeps you bound to another/ That’s how it goes on the love train/ Sometimes heartstrings can be broken/ But you just gotta keep on going/ That’s how it goes on the love train,” the couple sang on the chorus.
“Love’s Train” was released on February 14 as the fourth single from their debut set. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 after its November 2021 release, selling 104,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending November 18, according to Luminate. The album also ranked No. 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and won four Grammy Awards in total – a clean sweep for the duo – for the album’s lead single, “Leave the Door Open”, in the record of the year. , Song of the Year, Top R&B Performance, and Top R&B Song Categories.
Silk Sonic is up for four 2022 BBMAs; the duo earlier in the evening lost Best Duo/Group and Best R&B Artist to BTS and Doja Cat respectively, but won Best R&B Song for “Leave the Door Open.” The pair are also up for Best R&B Album for An Evening with Silk Sonic.
