Billboard Music Awards 2022: the Top Dance/Electronic categories covered by Illenium, PNAU and Lady Gaga
It’s been a few days since the annual Billboard Music Awards took place, and the industry is still talking about the incredible wins for several massive contributors in the Dance/Electronic categories of the awards. This year, there were several notable names in the Dance/Electronic categories, and awards were won by Illenium, PNAU and Lady Gaga.
Adding the event this year was a massive win for several artists. Olivia Rodrigue walked away with seven awards from an impressive 13 nominations, the most notable being the Best New Artist category. Nominations were also successful for Duckwho picked up 5 wins out of 11 nominations, with an impressive win in the Top Artist and Top Rap Album category for his ‘Boy Lover Certified’.
The Dance/Electronic Artist of the Year category was won by none other than Mother Monster, Lady Gaga. She became closely associated with the electronic dance music industry when her latest album “Chromatic” hosted a plethora of collaborations with producers like Chami, Skrillex and Axwell, just to name a few. His collaboration with Tchami, ‘Rain on me’, nominated her for Top Dance/Electronic Song last year, when she won awards for Top Dance/Electronic Album as well as Best Artist in the Dance/Electronic category. His album impacted the EDM scene and paved the way for EDM producers in mainstream pop, and his win this year is testament to such a contribution, earning more calvin harris, Marshmallow, Tiesto and David Guetta.
In the Top Dance/Electronic Album category, the competition was fierce. Last years ‘To feed’ from Porter Robinson was a strong competitor, with Minecraftthe renaissance of relevance, paving the way for C418it is ‘Alpha Volume’ to be named. SOIL RÜFÜS and FKA twigs were also nominated, but the victory was taken by Illenium and his 4th multi-genre studio album “Fallen embers”. His 54-minute project follows the fourth chapter of the allegorical journey of a phoenix, symbolizing his own artistic process, and is considered by many to be his finest work to date.
“I’ve never won an award before, so that’s cool”revealed Illenium in his acceptance speech. “Making music for me has always been a really big healing aspect of my life and it’s amazing to share with amazing fans and [to be] here. So thank you very much guys, hope to see you again soon.
The Top Dance/Electronic Song category was filled with exciting big names such as Tiesto, Travis Scott, farruko and Tate McRaebut was won by Australian dance music trio PNAUand their remix of Elton John and Dua Lipa ‘Cold heart’. Last year, in an interview on Glitterbox, Elton John expressed his love for dance music, which led him to collaborate with PNAU on a catchy revamp of the song that hit Billboard Dance and Electronic Music Chart.
