In the history of the Billboard Latin Music Awards, a number of Latin icons – such as Celia Cruz (1994), Vicente Fernández (1998) and Daddy Yankee (2021) – have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. The Special Prize is awarded to artists who have achieved worldwide recognition for their work, transcending musical genres and languages.
During his speech, Yankee – who took the stage to a standing ovation – said: “It’s amazing. Thank you family for this moment. As you all know I was 15 with big dreams when I started, just as some of you may be right now. And, it took me three decades to realize that with discipline, wisdom and determination, you can get to It’s all about talent and hard work.
This year, hitmaker Nicky Jam will join the elite group of artists who have entered the Hall of Fame. The prize will recognize the reggaetón artist (known for anthemic songs such as “El Perdón” and “Travesuras”), actor and entrepreneur for his prolific work. He is also set to perform at the awards ceremony, which will take place on Thursday, September 29 at the Watsco Center in Miami and will be broadcast live on Telemundo starting at 7 p.m. ET.
As has been the case for more than 20 years, the Billboard Latin Music Awards – which will air simultaneously on Telemundo, Universo, Peacock and the Telemundo app and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional – coincide with Billboardis annual Latin Music Week, the largest and most important gathering of the Latin music industry, which runs from September 26 to October 26. 1.
