During the 2022 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday May 15, Florence + The Machine celebrated the release of their latest album, dance fever, embracing the Vegas desert heat to deliver a storm on stage.
True to her powerful form, vocalist Florence Welch punctuated the performance of “My Love” with her booming vocals while a fog machine did the rest – creating an eerieness that perfectly matched the song’s earth-shattering energy.
dance fever is the fifth album by Florence + The Machine, which Welch produced during confinement; “My Love” is her third single (preceded by “King” and “Heaven Is Here”).
The band’s last two albums, high as hope and How big, how blue, how beautifulreached number 2 and 1 respectively on the Billboard 200. In 2011, the act was a finalist in two BBMA categories, Top Rock Song and Top Alternative Song, both for their mega-hit “Dog Days Are Over”.
Florence + The Machine was introduced by an unlikely artist in Fat Joe (who almost missed the band’s name), which fans online were quick to mock. But according to Diddy, the host of the BBMAs 2022, everything can be solved with more love. That ethos fuels his entire mission for the night, which is to “cancel the cancel,” which he doubled down on by personally booking performances from artists such as Morgan Wallen and Travis Scott.
The Dance Fever Tour kicks off in September and consists of three legs until March 2023. Last week, the band gave fans a preview of the upcoming show series with an intimate performance at Alice Tully Hall in New York at Lincoln Center.
