CMT Music Awards Flashback: Five Country Crooners Who Composed Male Video of the Year

On Monday, April 11, country music hitmakers will flock to the Nashville Municipal Auditorium for the 2022 CMT Music Awards. As notable nominees eagerly wait for their names to be called, multi-platinum artist Kelsea Ballerini and the Hollywood star Anthony Mackie will bring the party forward as co-hosts.

Country music fans can expect perfectly dressed stars in eye-catching ensembles and jaw-dropping performances from Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Cody Johnson, Kenny Chesney, Maren Morris + Ryan Hurd, Jason Aldean, Little Big Town, Old Dominion and Suite.

During the star-studded affair, one lucky country crooner will walk away as the winner of Male Video of the Year. The 2022 competition is tough, with Cody Johnson, Eric Church, Kane Brown, Luke Bryan, Luke Combs, Thomas Rhett and Walker Hayes going head-to-head.

In honor of the friendly rivalry, CMT took a look back at when fan-favorite musicians won the prestigious accolade. The 2022 CMT Music Awards will air live from Nashville at 8 p.m. ET Monday on CBS.

Luke Bryan scored Male Video of the Year with his feel-good anthem, “A daisyat the 2020 CMT Music Awards. The hit is featured on Bryan’s seventh studio album, “Born here Live here Die here.” The beloved music video was filmed before the pandemic at Bryan’s Crash My Playa festival in Cancun, Mexico. Confidently, Bryan took to the podium to thank his dedicated fans for voting and his supportive mother for making an appearance in the holiday-inspired clip.

“Thank you so much to all the fans who voted for the video,” he said. “All the people who crashed my party… I want to thank my mom for crashing my video and being the star,” he added of the carefree music video which also features his close friends.

Country music star Kane Brown received the Male Video of the Year award at the 2019 CMT Music Awards at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The hitmaker marked the distinction with “Loose it», the up-tempo track from his second studio album, «Experience.” Brown wrote the party anthem alongside composers Chase McGill and Will Weatherly.

2018: Blake Shelton – “I’ll Name the Dogs.”

2018 was a huge year for Blake Shelton as he dominated the star-studded ceremony. The multi-platinum entertainer won Video of the Year for “I will name the dogsand received his 10th win in the Male Video of the Year category. After her victory, the icon took center stage and recognized the next generation of country musicians.

“It’s so cool to sit down tonight with this new generation of country artists coming in,” Shelton shared with hope in her voice. “I may be one of the last old folks to be excited to embrace and be excited about the new generation to come…so good!”
