8 K-pop artists with the most Daesang wins in history

The Melon Music Awardsor MMA, is a major annual music awards ceremony that recognizes the best talent in the South Korean music industry.

The awards show was started in 2005 by a major South Korean conglomerate called Kakao Entertainment and until 2008 it was mostly a fan-voted online awards show. Starting in 2009, however, it has been held offline in Seoul every year.

The awards show chooses the winners based on digital data obtained from the Melon music platform, as well as judges’ votes and online voting.

The Daesang or grand prizes are awarded to those who showed outstanding performance over other K-pop artists that year. The Melon Music Awards have four Daesang, namely Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.

BTS is the only artist to have swept all Daesangs consecutively from 2019-2022. BTS was sure to win it twice. in a row, after winning it in 2019, for the award to return in 2021.
