Gabby Barrett’s performance at the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday embodied her new title – “Pick Me Up.”
During the performance, Barrett walked to the center of a hydraulic lift and slowly rose into the air. Earlier, co-host Kelsea Ballerini said she had always wanted to use a hydraulic lift during a performance, and now that she had one, she explained that she couldn’t use it. She said she hoped someone else would have the fun in her place, and it looked like Barrett was the lucky one. Ballerini had to co-host the show from home as she tested positive for Covid-19 in the days immediately leading up to the show.
“Pick Me Up” is Barrett’s new single which she wrote with Ross Copperman and Jon Nite.
“I didn’t really have a song in my repertoire that was laid back — a ride down the back roads while listening to a George Strait-type song,” Barrett said in a statement. “I had to pay tribute to George Strait because I feel like I’ve been adopted into the Texas family with my husband coming from Texas.”

The ballad backroad has lyrics such as: You and Jesus can fix my soul | So pick me up, take me out lost | Down a two-way rear| Little George Strait up | Get me out of my head and out of this town | And tell me whatever happens | You will be by my side | Everything will be fine | Make the world black, how you make me like this | When I get in your truck | just pick me up
“Pick Me Up” is from Barrett’s “Goldmine Deluxe” album.
